Marine & Boat Solutions

The key to success in marine paint and coating projects is proper surface preparation — dedicated blasting solutions for steel and fiber hulls.

Overview

Why Is Blasting Used in the Marine & Boat Industry? The success of marine paint and coating projects depends directly on the accuracy of surface preparation; no matter how expensive or technologically advanced the coating is, the result will fail unless surface preparation is done correctly. Rust, oxide, corrosion, and residue from old coatings and paint must be completely removed from the surface, and a surface profile must be created that the coating can adhere to sufficiently. Although different techniques exist for marine surface preparation, blasting is the most effective method.

Different Consumables Depending on Hull Type: For steel hulls, steel grit is the most suitable consumable; when cost is a higher priority, garnet, silica sand or basalt sand can be preferred. For fiber hulls, a more delicate process is required, so working with soda blasting media is ideal; when cost is a concern, various organic shells or low-specific-gravity sands can also be used. Steel ships and boats are not suitable for wet blasting, but a wet blasting system can also be preferred for fiber hulls.
