Plastic Abrasive (Plastic Media) Blasting Consumable

Low-density, dust-free, no-residue plastic abrasive used in precision surface treatments; offered in 6 types — Urea, Melamine, Acrylic, Polyamide, Polycarbonate and Phenolic.

  • 6 different plastic types, 11 different size options — chosen to suit precision blasting needs
  • Does not create dust, does not leave residue/contamination on the surface, does not cause dimensional change
  • Internal structure hardens with impact — higher surface effect with repeated use
  • Can be used in all pressure, vacuum-suction, turbine and wet blasting systems

Product Description

Low-density plastic abrasive blasting consumables are used in very delicate surface treatments; they are suitable for air and turbine blasting systems. They allow cleaning without damaging the surface of the material being blasted, do not create dust, and do not cause residue/contamination on the surface.

Commonly used for blasting thermoset, duroplastic and pressure die-cast aluminum materials, plastic abrasives offer dust-free operation. As with stainless steel beads, plastic abrasives also undergo internal structure hardening depending on the amount of impact.

6 Plastic Abrasive Types:

TypeHardness (Mohs)Description
Urea Plastic Abrasive3.5The most common and versatile type. Used for removing coating, paint, dirt and flash.
Melamine Plastic Abrasive4The most aggressive and brittle type. Used on less delicate surfaces where speed is required.
Acrylic Plastic Abrasive3.2-3.5The least aggressive and softest. Aerospace applications, metal/electronics deflashing.
Polyamide (Nylon) Plastic Abrasive—Automotive and thermoset industry. Not suitable for cold deflashing.
Polycarbonate Plastic Abrasive—Automotive, electronics, industrial applications; rubber and thermoset industry.
Phenolic (Phenol Resin) Plastic Abrasive—A type of granule made from Urea, Phenol, Polyester or Melamine resin; used for blasting thermoset and duroplastic materials.
