Defense & Aerospace Solutions
Blasting solutions engineered specifically for advanced, out-of-the-ordinary defense and aerospace projects.
Overview
Why Is Blasting Used in the Defense and Aerospace Industry? Defense industry and aerospace components — from ammunition casings to aircraft engine turbine disks, from heavy industrial parts to precision cylindrical components — often require dimensions, geometries or precision that standard blasting machines cannot handle. Rather than offering a generic catalog product for such projects, Saykar develops automation solutions engineered specifically for the part's geometry, loading method and production line. Almost all steel-based metal parts used in the defense industry are blasted before coating and painting; in this field blasting is done with great precision and requires extra care, and aluminum oxide is generally preferred as the abrasive.
Precision Surface Preparation with Wet Blasting: Wet blasting is a surface-finishing technique that uses a pressurized suspension of blasting media mixed with water to process a material's surface. SAYKAR's SK-1850, developed for an aerospace engine manufacturer, was designed exactly for a task requiring this level of precision: with 3-axis robotic blasting guns and a loadcell-based precision dosing system, it processes the surface of turbine disks repeatably, without batch-to-batch variation.
Reference Project: The SK-1850 robotic wet blasting system we developed for an aerospace engine manufacturer performs surface preparation of turbine disks with full automation and no batch-to-batch variation. (The customer's name is kept anonymous until confidentiality is confirmed.)
Shotgun Barrel Blasting: The barrel assemblies of the most widely produced shotguns in the private sector are precisely blasted before hard chrome plating. Cabinet-type barrel blasting machines are specifically used for this task; depending on production volume, automatic machines capable of blasting multiple barrels may be preferred. In this weapon-blasting process, done using compressed air only, garnet or aluminum oxide is used as the consumable.
